Chinawhite Rock The Polo is this year working with The CarbonNeutral Company, the world's leading carbon offset and climate consulting business, to calculate its carbon footprint and reduce this through an environmentally healing project in China.
Through inviting The CarbonNeutral Company to take a thorough inventory of each aspect of the spectacular Chinawhite Rock The Polo event, Chinawhite is committing to neutralise the CO2 emissions to 'zero' through offsets in the Guizhou Province.
The specific project selected by Chinawhite for carbon credits is the Guizhou Hydro Power Project in southwest China. The club has offset 309 tonnes of C02 in to the Guizhou Hydro Power Project which will contribute towards the construction of small and medium hydro power stations in the area. By substituting coal-fired power stations with clean hydro power, it will avoid local air pollution and associated health risks. At the same time, an improved road network will help the development of the local economy.
The villages and towns nearby the Guizhou Hydro Power Project are located in remote mountain regions where there is no industry and only very weak infrastructure. As well as benefiting the local economy, the project will displace electricity generated by fossil fuel power plants and generate emission reductions of an estimated 190,000 tCO2 equivalent.
